Get to know the Norn
Aesir lineages (the descendants of the Aesir, Gods of the Norse) are full of contradictions and oddities. The Norns were neither Gods nor Jotun, but their Scions are found only in Aesir lineages. Just as it is not uncommon to find a Scion of Loki amongst the Aesir, rather than the Jotun lineages.
Scions of the Norns have two responsibilities that fall to them. They are the guardians of the various branches of Yggdrasil. Artifacts of immense power, holding one of these branches allows a Scion to cross the boundaries between realms and travel as they wish. The second role of the Norn is to bear witness to the weight of destiny. All Aesir Scions know that fate and destiny has already been laid out, and that a person is marked at their birth. Nothing and no one, not even the Gods themselves can change fate.
Norn Scions are always sisters. Sometimes triplets, sometimes not. Bad things are said to befall the destiny of Norns who try to walk separate paths from each other. Norns who choose different seasons have been plagued by bad luck and curses.
Norns have been known to get visions, but only rarely, and usually only when the branches they guard are in danger. The power they keep a secret from everyone though, is their ability to see fated mate bonds before the pair kiss. Some Norns have been known to play match maker, but others like to let fate play out as it wishes.
Unlike their Greek counterparts, the Norns have no control over fate or destiny. And they would never try to change fate or destiny either. They aren't fortune tellers, and implying they are is likely to get you punched in the face.
It is not uncommon to find Norn scions around during times of great change or conflict. Destiny draws them to it, wanting them to bear witness. This calling comes with a cost though: No Norn scions have ever been recorded to have a fated mate. This doesn't stop them from having relationships, but Fate has declared them witnesses, not participants.
The most famous Norn scions were the monarchs of the Summer Court in Germany, during the 1980's. Known Anarchists, they left a lasting mark on society, spending all of their time in Berlin.
